anna, libya, and london...
this will be remembered as the year of unrest!
the blaze from the mid-east, the senseless looting of london, and the peaceful fasting in delhi have certainly grabbed a lot of eye balls of late... it would, in the years to come, also prove to be a turning point in modern civic history, akin to that of the renaissance, and the democratization of the free world.
the revolution is yet to come, we are only seeing the symtoms of this new malice. this isnt a disease though; this is only the churning of the pot, the turning of the wheel... a new chapter in human history begins!
this, is the twitterification of the universe!
democracy, an idea as old as plato and socrates, and an ideal that has striken fear in the hearts of the monarchs and despots of the world, had changed life for all over the past 1000 years... the basic principle of democracy was simple: instead of subjugating one's life to the whims of ONE man (or family) forever, one would CHOOSE who would rule over you... it was a step away from being being ruled over, but in reality, the only difference was the time frame of the "ruler's rule"! a ruling family could be removed in a couple of generations, if their rule didnt live up to expectations; democracy made that process streamlined, and put a 5-year expiration date on governments. however, they remained "sarkari" in parlance and action!
the age of tech is changing the time-frame that we have all been used to... letters used to travel 200 kms in a week; we now email 20,000 kms in seconds... the same impatience is now being felt about governance... waiting for 5 years to comment on the performance of a government is no longer acceptable; we want our opinions out there, and we want them out there NOW!
the revolution would begin once we will eventually realise what this means; the time is not far when not our elected but our employed would manage the country; managers, not politicains would not govern, but organise. decisions, big and small, will be taken by each and every one of us... online. referendums would happen on a weekly basis; some people would be more active, some not, some would canvas for certain ideals, some would push for religious / moral / financial standards. there would only be systems to manage and convert all this network data into policies, and implement the same. implementation would similarly be monitored online, and the results / efficacy judged and rewarded / punished in the same manner...
democracy, its time to step aside for twitocracy!
